Sketchbook
The sketchbook for me has always been a tool for recording, investigating and dissecting and the small but portable scale has allowed me to draw whenever I see something interesting or when I have ideas outside of my studio. I have also found it very useful during the painting process when something in the painting is not working well, so I go back to the source and refresh my memory of it by drawing it. I know that many artists equip themselves with specially prepared sketchbooks but I have found that any paper that comes to hand is just as effective. These drawings are notations for future work so although very important in the process they are not fully finished artworks.
